The main variation between the two is that limestone is a sedimentary rock, normally made up of calcium carbonate fossils, which forms the deposits at the bottom of oceans and lakes solidify over time. On the other hand marble, as a metamorphic rock, forms when sedimentary limestone is warmed and squeezed by natural rock-forming processes resulting in the grains being able to recrystallize.
